Volunteering
|
Cherine strongly believes in giving back to the
community, so when she moved to the Cayman Islands in 2011 she became involved
in several volunteer groups/organizations that would utilize her expertise.
These include the Cayman AIDS Foundation of which she now serves as the
President, the Children’s Health Task Force a programme which was launched in
2009 in an attempt to deal with the dramatic rise in the number of school
children who are either obese, or at risk of becoming obese in the Cayman
Islands, and the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association. She also Volunteered at
Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS) as a Personal Trainer in
the gym and assisted briefly with the food service system.

My Background |
Cherine's professional
experience began in 1995 where she was employed as a Nurse’s Aide at the
Hanover Infirmary – providing nursing care to both residents and staff. During
this period she joined the Hanover AIDS Support Group to assist in providing
support to all persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. She also joined the
Ramble Police Youth Club in Hanover, Jamaica and served as the Treasurer.
Her nutrition experiences began in 2002 during her tenure at the Annotto Bay Hospital where she functioned as a Dietetic Technician having responsibility for the overall operation of the Department of Dietetics. In this capacity, she provided nutrition consultation to patients, managed food production and delivery, organized in-service training/seminars for staff development and developed management systems to facilitate transparency and efficiency. Cherine then left the Annotto Bay Hospital to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition at UTech, and later moved on to the Westmoreland Health Department in 2005 where she functioned as the Nutrition Officer for the entire parish. Under this portfolio she conducted nutrition clinics throughout the parish, met with social groups within the different communities to address nutrition and health related issues, assisted in the implementation of wellness programmes, participated in nutrition programmes in the media, worked with the national HIV/AIDS programme, conducted house trials and moderated one focus group for Jamaica’s Food Based Dietary Guidelines and generally addressed and oversee all nutrition related issues/activities in the parish. |
